A Nurses Take on Treatment

Nurse on duty

“I am a Nurse at Narconon New Life Retreat, a drug rehab in Louisiana. I get to work with the patients and see them go from sick and withdrawing to being excited about their new life. I love this job!

“When I meet them for the first time, they are usually emaciated. Some can’t think well enough to answer questions and I may have to end up calling their family for some of their medical information.

“The students start in withdrawal and I will assist them as needed to help ease their withdrawal symptoms. Staff work with them one on one throughout that time. When they complete withdrawal, they usually have gained some weight and they look better. Most of them tell me they are feeling much better.

“Then they start sauna New Life Detoxification. During this time, they usually start feeling their body again after years of being numb. Along with feeling their body comes noticing their aches and pains. Since I take their vitals each day they are in sauna, I am able to assist them with whatever situation that may come up. By the end of their sauna detoxification, most stop coming to see me. That’s how I know they are better.

“After that, I don’t really interact with them until I see them at the end of their program, at their graduation. They don't even look like they did when they started. The transformation is nothing short of a miracle. They go from a drug addict or an alcoholic to a happy, healthy person. Such a wonderful experience to be a part of.

“If I can give any advice for someone dealing with a drug addict or an alcoholic it is this: keep them close and make sure they get the necessary medical attention they need. If they are withdrawing, be sure to have them stay hydrated. If they are coming off benzos or alcohol, take them to the hospital because sometimes the withdrawal symptoms left unmonitored or unaddressed can be fatal. Then, call us and get them a new life.”
