Celebrating Red Ribbon Week

Narconon Louisiana

Narconon New Life Retreat, in celebration of Red Ribbon Week delivered drug education to over two hundred middle and high school children. The lectures showed the dangerous effects drugs have on the mind, how to stay drug free and the basic definition of what a drug is.

This year is the 28th annual Red Ribbon Week after its humble beginnings in 1988. The red ribbon was first used in 1985 in honor of the late Enrique Camarena of the DEA who was murdered. Wearing of the red ribbon was done to raise awareness of the violence and destruction caused by drug use.

The talks started early in the morning and were met with great responses from the children and educators. Here is what some of the children had to say:

"My thoughts did change. To be honest, for my 21st Birthday, I was gonna drink. But, I don’t want to anymore.”
“I can take the information I learned throughout life and use it as I go to teach my brothers and sisters and other children and people not to do drugs.”
“I thought the talk was very useful because there are a lot of things I didn’t really know about. I learned a lot that may help the loved ones I know not to do bad things.”

To show their support of Red Ribbon Week, staff here at Narconon New Life Retreat took a drug-free pledge to stay drug-free and teach others about the dangers of drug abuse. If you or a loved are struggling with drug abuse, call us today. If you need help educating yourself or your children call us for free drug education information.
