Recovery at New Life Retreat is a three-stage process. During the first stage, each person goes through a deep, sauna-based detoxification process to wash away residues of old drug or alcohol use. This process usually lasts a few weeks and helps stabilize the person and reduce drug cravings. The detox combines time in the sauna with moderate exercise and a strict regimen of nutritional supplements that enable the body to dislodge and eliminate traces of past drug use. Most people say they can think more clearly when this step is done.
Once the residues are washed away, the Objectives helps each person leave the trauma of the past behind and move into a brighter, more hopeful future. The Objectives consists of a series of exercises that refocus a person’s attention on their current environments, helping each person recover from the pain they suffered during addiction. This is a vital step in each person’s healing.
Stage three deals focuses on the development of life skills. Each person learns who makes a positive, safe associate and who doesn’t and how to deal with these different personality types. He (or she) also learns how integrity is lost and how self-respect can be regained – which results in significant relief from guilt. Finally, sane, sober decision-making and problem-solving skills are learned to help each person stay on a stable sober path through life.
