Growing Despite Hardship

Girl in hospital

“Throughout this life, we all experience challenging moments. Though these obstacles seem never ending and traumatic, what we gain from these hardships can make the experience all worthwhile.

“On November 2, 2015, I was in a brutal accident. My actions leading up to this were rather careless, so in a way the ’accident’ was self-inflicted. I refused to take notice of the choices I should have made to prevent it. Being a drug addict for several years enabled some pretty poor decision making, so after a binge of narcotics and meth, I somehow ended up on a tractor near my family’s hunting property. Much of that memory is faint due to the injury to my brain and much of that memory loss was drug induced.

“I do remember waking up in a hospital bed. I remember the emptiness and the quiet of the room. Prior to my accident, I had scheduled an abortion. The Friday before the procedure consult, was when I fell off the tractor and got run over. Perhaps a higher power intervened. I spent weeks in a coma to wake up with no recollection of the precious life inside me. After months of healing and rehabilitating in the hospital, I came home with all limbs intact as a single mother.

“Surprisingly, my baby was born healthy, beautiful and I’d say perfect. Not only was I given the new life of my girl; but a new-found respect for my own. As much as I’d like to say this new chapter of sobriety is based on my own desire to live a full life, it very much is a strong will to grant my precious girl an upbringing I couldn’t imagine. That is the reason I chose to come to Narconon.

“These tough situations and sometimes foolish mistakes can evolve into something beautiful. Had I not endured this bizarre experience, I wouldn’t have my gorgeous child or the strong need to live this life to the fullest. Be grateful for this time on earth, count your blessings and find opportunity in your struggle. Remember nothing good ever comes easy.” —Anonymous
