Kanye Opens Up about His Opiate Addiction

Kanye

In a rant with TMZ, a popular news agency that focuses on reporting on the activity of celebrities, Kanye West opened up about his addiction to opioid painkillers.

According to Kanye, he received Liposuction to avoid being made fun of for being fat by tabloids. He ranted at the TMZ writer’s room saying, “I did this for yall!”

Here is Kanye's full interview with TMZ:

“I was addicted to opioids. I had plastic surgery because I was trying to look good for y’all. I got liposuction because I didn’t want y’all to call me fat like y’all called Rob [Kardashian] at the wedding and made him fly home before me and Kim got married. I didn’t want y’all to call me fat so I got liposuction, right? And they gave me opioids, right? And I started taking two of them and then drive into work on the opioids, right? And then … I’d always ask my boy, you know, ’We on tour give me some weed blah, blah, blah,’ so he had to go get me the opioids. And there was talks amongst my camp like, Ye’s popping pills, so when he handed them to me he said you know this is used to kill genius, so I didn’t take it. Two days later I was in the hospital.”

He went on to talk about the fact that after the surgery he was taking two opiate pills a day. He didn’t clarify what type of medicines he was taking, only that they were prescription painkillers. He went on to explain that after he quit taking them following the advice of his friends he ended up back in the hospital being prescribed even more pills.

This shed light on his mid-tour cancelation in 2016. Kanye is far from alone with drug use rampant across the country. In 2016, drug overdose topped the chart as the number one cause of accidental death.
