The Unthinkable Has Happened

Kids Running

We hear about the opiate epidemic in this country on a pretty regular basis. However, in most of those cases, it is those with an addiction or their family member’s that suffer. Not unsuspecting children…

The unthinkable has happened in Miami, the Magic City. A 10-year-old boy who died last month is suspected to have died from exposure to the extremely potent and deadly street drug fentanyl. The drug has become more and more common across the US. In fact, the increase in the availability of this drug is suspected to be further fueling the opiate epidemic.

Young Alton must have encountered the drug during his walk home from the swimming pool as that was the only time he was unsupervised. When NBC investigated, they discovered the two-block walk littered with bottles, drug baggies and syringes.

“The Miami Herald said the home is in the Overtown neighborhood, which is considered ’ground zero’ for the city’s opioid epidemic.“ —NBC News

The hearts of all of us at Narconon New Life Retreat go out to the family who lost their little boy. He became an unnecessary casualty of the opiate epidemic. No one is totally safe since this epidemic does not discriminate. Educate yourself and protect your loved ones.
