According to the San Antonio Press, a former police chief from South Texas recently pled guilty to charges of assisting Mexican drug cartels with drug smuggling.
Hernan Guerra, Jr., the former police chief of Sullivan City, Texas, accepted money to keep drug traffickers informed of border patrol movements. He even directed his own officers away from the shipments. Guerra’s actions resulted in more than two thousand pounds of marijuana slipping across the Mexico/Texas border onto U.S. soil.
Law enforcement officials involved in the case stated that Guerra was only one of more than two thousand people arrested as part of a two-year-long investigation into cartel activities along the border of Mexico.
