Cutting Agents In Cocaine

Man having health problems from drug use

We live in an era where drugs are more deadly than ever. Levels of Fentanyl found in street drugs continually rise along with the coinciding level of deaths worldwide. It’s important to realize that most street drugs, for instance, cocaine, are hardly ever the drugs themselves. Drug dealers at the top of a global operation down to local neighborhood dealers are mixing whatever is readily available to result in a higher quantity.

The additives being mixed into the drug, otherwise known as “cutting agents,” are often very harmful to the human body and, in some cases, can be more damaging to the body than the drug itself.

Cocaine has been found containing cutting agents such as:

  • Horse Dewormer
  • Unscented Laundry Detergents
  • Creatine
  • Inositol Powder
  • Caffeine Powder
  • Lidocaine
  • Cornstarch
  • Boric Acid
  • Levamisole

And many more.

Often, when an addict is using cocaine, they will crave cocaine. However, in some instances, the addict may be craving one of the cutting agents rather than the drug itself, and they will not ever realize it.

There is a particular issue with cocaine since it is most often snorted, and there is a problem with snorting a drug, along with its harmful cutting agents since there will be inevitable physical damage to the nose.

Just a few of the many cocaine use-related issues include:

  • Saddle nose
  • Sinusitis
  • Fever
  • Nasal congestion
  • Nasal discharge
  • Headaches
  • Sleep Apnea

It should also be noted most of the damage done to the nose is irreversible, and cosmetic surgery after a collapsed nose is never a guaranteed solution due to complications during surgeries by ear, nose, and throat doctors.

These are all physical issues that can ultimately be handled, but there is a more important issue at hand—figuring out why the person with an addiction is using drugs in the first place. Treatment is mandatory, and in the case of an addict who may unwittingly take a drug laced with fentanyl, treatment is also vital.
