Fifty people gathered Tuesday in downtown Howell to rally against heroin addiction. It’s the right time to rally against this threat since 25 people in Livingston County have passed away since September. Members of the rally stood in the rain on the grounds of the historic Livingston County Courthouse to bring the issue to the public’s attention.
One mother who drove 45 miles to attend the rally had been personally affected by heroin addiction. Her daughter got hooked on the drug and passed away, so she understands first-hand how devastating the drug can be to a person’s life.
Neal is a member of an organization named The Addict’s Mom. She said,
The rally also promoted the upcoming community education forum sponsored by the Livingston County Community Alliance (LCCA). It’s set for 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Livingston Educational Service Agency, 1425 W. Grand River Ave. in Howell. LCCA is better known for its prescription collection project which has collected 3,850 pounds of unused prescription drugs. The project aims to take unused prescriptions off people’s hands before they can become gateways to harsher drugs.

Pinpoint pupils
Runny, itchy nose
Tendency to nod off
Slurred speech
Itching body or face
Neglect of grooming or cleanliness
Not eating regularly
Covering arms with long sleeves
Complaints of constipation
