New Illinois Bill Targets Synthetic Drug Addiction

Two Illinois senators have taken action against synthetic drug addiction in their state by introducing a bill that sufficiently broadens the definition of “synthetic drugs” to enable law enforcement to crack down on marijuana, cocaine and heroin substitutes.
Such synthetic drugs as those nicknamed “bath salts” and “Spice,” which have swept across the nation have caused serious problems for officials. Since they are new substances, no laws prohibited their sales in any states where they were found. Instead of being sold by drug dealers, since they were at least temporarily legal, they were packaged in small foil envelopes and sold in head shops and convenience stores.
These dangerous toxic substances have caused a string of overdoses and deaths throughout the U.S.
Due to the length of time it takes to pass laws banning drugs, when this bill passes, it will be a major step toward preventing the kinds of synthetic drug problems seen in Louisiana.
Effects of these dangerous drugs include hallucinations, seizures, paranoia, delusions, coma and death. In states where bath salts have become broadly available, local poison control centers have been overwhelmed with calls for help. These synthetic drugs pose serious public health threats.
If you or someone you know has fallen prey to synthetic drug abuse, an Illinois drug addiction rehab is an effective solution.
