Response to a Call for Help
Narconon Louisiana New Life Retreat set up a booth at the Livingston Parish Fair where parents and teachers received drug education materials and children and teenagers signed a drug free pledge. In addition to drug education materials detailing the dangers of drugs, Truth About Drugs DVDs were shown and handed out. Approximately 300 children and teenagers signed a pledge to stay drug free.
In an interview last year regarding heroin deaths in Southeast Louisiana, Dr. Rochelle Dunham, state medical director over behavioral health, said education about opiates is critical. Responding to the need for drug education, Narconon Louisiana attended the fair and distributed hundreds of drug education pamphlets about the most commonly abused drugs, raising awareness in the local community.
Fair attendees were openly very thankful to Narconon Louisiana for their participation in the fair and for spreading vital information to the public about the truth and dangers of abusing drug and alcohol. It is important for children to be made aware of abusing drugs and or alcohol at an earlier age, before they are introduce to substance abuse by their friends. Too often, a child tries a drug and realizes too late that they have become dependent upon it. Disseminating the disastrous effects of drugs to larger groups of children and young adults can help to solidify their commitment to remaining drug free. Narconon Louisiana was founded in 2006 following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in an effort to help the thousands of residents affected by addiction who had no available treatment facilities.
Located on approximately 15 wooded acres in Denham Springs, it is a non-profit alcohol and drug rehabilitation center licensed by the State of Louisiana. The Narconon drug rehabilitation and education program was started in 1966 and uses the drug-free rehabilitation and social education methodology based on research developed by American author and humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard. We are dedicated to eliminating alcohol and addiction through drug prevention, education and rehabilitation.
