What New Jersey Drug
Courts Need

Drug Courts - NJ

The New Jersey Drug Court was established in 1996 in an effort to reduce the incidence of drug abuse and drug-related incarceration. According to the New Jersey Courts website, drug court programs are often characterized by collaboration between the courts, prosecutors, law enforcement, public defenders and non-profit community organizations. A drug court will make an assessment in order to identify which drug offenders qualify as “non-violent.” From there, the court uses a system of sanctions and incentives in order to encourage recovery while keeping the person out of jail if at all possible.

The reason that drug courts don’t succeed as often as they might is that often the community-based non-profits charged with rehabilitating the addicted are ineffective. New Jersey drug courts need effective drug addiction rehabs as partners if they are ever going to achieve their objective of a drug-free New Jersey.

It is reasonable to assume that if an addict is now in court for breaking the law, piling on more rules and regulations will not cause him to recover. Addicts who are in trouble and who are ready to turn their lives around need real help from a New Jersey drug addiction rehab.

The truth is law enforcement alone stops few addicted people from using their preferred drugs. Effective in-patient addiction treatment facilities are the answer.
